2007 Race Results
mrs golden's sprint mass start - photo laura halls
The rumble was a big success again this year. Owing to a late spring with not much else running we had a great turnout of 22 racers! It was awesome. The weather was a bit of a damper, and had there not been a noreaster in the forecast for the day the turnout would have been much higher. Nevertheless, the hardcore came out and raced in what was probably the coldest creekrace ever held. Still River Outfitters threw in some great prizes to boot. props.

the rules were: first, don't kill each other. second, only one long boat showed up so all prizes were bumped to shortboat. third, due to inadequate recording equipment for rainy weather only the top five finishers would be recorded in each race (so i guess you can kill each other if it looks like you're competitive for top five). 2 runs of the river. first run split into 4 mass start sprint sections. you earn points by finishing top 5. 5 for 1st, 4 for 2nd 3 for 3rd... etc. then on the second run of the river you mass start race the full length. that's worth 3x the points as the short sprint finishes. add it all up... there are your winners.

labyrinth is the shortest sprint and always subject to pile-up and a real boatercross feel. this year was no exception with a major pile-up in the final hole. mass chaos.

In the end, Mike Holliday's strong showing in the sprint round carried him through the Rumble to first place. It was very closed between the top three finishers though, and Alex Steinberg and Scott Andrews gave him a run for his money. 5th place Justin Crannell took home a LL t-shirt. 4th place Mike McDonnell took home a sweet drybag from Still River Outfitters. In 3rd Scott Andrews took home a $25 gift certificate to Still River. 2nd place Alex Steinberg took home a lifejacket from still river. And in 1st Mike took home a $50 gift certificate to Still River and a sweet Wells River Rumble Sweatshirt proclaiming him the SHORTBOAT CHAMPION!
